He arrived in Spain on 7 January 1937 and died during the fighting on 27th of February 1937 during the battle of Jarama at the height of the Spanish Civil War. Five years ago a group of people, The Friends of Charlie Donnelly, set out with the objective of building a memorial on the battlefield to commemorate his death and the deaths of all the Irish Brigaders who died defending freedom. These two DVDs chart the course of their work to achieve their objective.
